Certification Reciprocity Process for School Counselors

This route is for experienced school counselors from other states who wish to become certified school counselors in Alaska. The Alaska Department of Education recognizes the experience and qualifications of out-of-state school counselors. The exact reciprocity requirements can be found on the Alaska Department of Education’s website.

Different levels of certification are available based on whether or not you have completed Alaska specific training and have acquired a National Certified School Counselor certification from the National Board for Certified Counselors organization.

Applying for Certification

Read through the directions for out-of-state applicants on the Step-by-Step User Guide published by the Alaska Department of Education and apply on the application portal.
