Certification Reciprocity Process for School Counselors
Licensing reciprocity for school counselors is typically governed by the Interstate Agreements established by the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC).
Louisiana does not offer direct reciprocity for school counselor licenses. However, you may be eligible for licensure if you meet specific requirements.
If you are an LPC:
- Your LPC license will be considered when applying for Initial School Counselor certification.
If you are a teacher:
- You may qualify for an Out-of-State (OS) teaching certificate if you have a minimum bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Once employed in a Louisiana school, your employer will initiate the OS certification process.
- With at least three years of teaching experience outside of Louisiana, you may be eligible for a standard, renewable/advanceable Level 1, 2, or 3 certificate.
