Are you a certified school counselor from another state looking to work in Colorado? The good news is that Colorado offers reciprocity for qualified out-of-state counselors. This means you may be able to obtain a Colorado school counselor license without starting from scratch.
Individuals who finish endorsement or degree programs outside of Colorado must hold or be eligible to hold the relevant license in the state of preparation for Colorado to recognize that program, according to Colorado State Board of Education rule 1 CCR 301-37 2.03(3). Individuals must also meet any additional Colorado licensure and endorsement requirements.
An out-of-state applicant is someone who completes a preparation program outside Colorado, including in-state residents completing online programs. Colorado recognizes these programs and requires individuals to hold the associated license in the state of preparation.
