Reciprocity for School Counselor Licenses in Arkansas
Arkansas offers a reciprocity program for out-of-state school counselors. This means your existing license from another state or country may be recognized, subject to review and potential requirements.
Active Duty Military and Spouses:
Veterans and their spouses with valid out-of-state licenses may be eligible for automatic licensure in Arkansas. To expedite the process, email ade.educatorlicensure@ade.arkansas.gov with your license and military affiliation.
Applying for Reciprocity:
- Request a Reciprocity Packet: Email ade.educatorlicensure@ade.arkansas.gov to request the application materials.
- Submit Required Documents: Provide official transcripts, proof of passing exams, three years of experience (if needed), a verification form, and National Board certification (if applicable).
Evaluation and Licensure:
- Review and Response: Your application will be reviewed, and you’ll receive a response within two weeks detailing any deficiencies.
- Standard or Provisional License: You may be eligible for a standard license if all requirements are met. A provisional license may be issued if you’re missing content testing or Arkansas History.
- International Credentials: If you’re from outside the U.S., you’ll need a transcript evaluation from a recognized agency.
Additional Notes:
- Arkansas History: This is required for Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Middle Childhood Social Studies, and Secondary Social Studies licenses.
- VOPLE: A VOPLE (Verification of Program and Licensure of Educator) is required from your employing superintendent for a provisional license.
By following these steps, you can determine your eligibility for a school counselor license in Arkansas based on your existing credentials.
